This has been an interesting week here in Brooklyn. We were lucky to have survived hurricane Sandy with no damage, loss of power or flooding. We are stuck in the borough and my office is without power so I have been working from home. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon!

Some of the damage in the neighborhood.

This week’s pickup was delayed by a day due to the hurricane. Luckily our farmer, Fred, and his family are all safe and the farm is up and running on generators. This share is looking much more like winter. Squash galore. Winter squash is a new vegetable to me. Apparently it is good for soup.

This week’s share:
1 head napa cabbage
2 heads baby bok choy
1 bunch red romaine lettuce
1 piece winter melon
1 spaghetti squash
1 delicata squash
1 bunch parsley
1 head garlic

If anyone has any pointers on the winter melon please let me know!
